Police searching for a student who has been missing for nine days have found a body in woodland.

Lucas Opanuga, 21, was reported missing by his family at about 4pm on February 22 after he left the family home in Southgate to go to shops in Enfield, north London.

The University of Portsmouth student had returned home to London on February 8.

Detectives searching for Lucas had earlier published CCTV of him taken after he disembarked from a route 121 bus on Brunswick Road, Enfield Island Village.

His family have been informed of the discovery and are being supported by specialist officers.

On Thursday a Met spokesman tweeted: “We previously appealed for help to locate Lucas Opanuga who had been reported missing from Enfield.

“Yesterday, officers searching an area of woodland found the body of a man.

“Lucas’s family have been updated with this development and are being supported by officers.”

Lucas’s, Larissa and Adetola, had previously appealed directly to their son to contact them.

“We really want to help you and we miss you so much,” they said.
