Lucas Moura has admitted that there was a feeling of apprehension in the Tottenham Hotspur dressing room when Manchester City were looking to complete a deal for Harry Kane during the summer transfer window.
City, following the departure of long-term goal-getter-in-chief Sergio Aguero, were desperate to add a new striker to their ranks ahead of the start of this season and Kane was at the very top of their wish list.
But despite their best efforts to lure Kane to the Etihad Stadium, City were unable to match Tottenham's sizeable demands, with the north Londoners, understandably determined to retain the services of the England captain — despite his desire to leave.
In the end Kane remained at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and pledged his loyalty to the club for another season.
Although a deal was never close to being completed between the two clubs, Brazilian ace Lucas has admitted that there was a nervous feeling within the dressing room throughout the saga.
"Harry has an absurd connection not only with Tottenham but with the English fan," Moura told ESPN, via Sport Witness. "Undoubtedly one of the greatest players in England in recent years.
"When all this noise came out on the market, everyone was apprehensive. We even got a little tense, because losing a player of his quality is really difficult. Hard to even replace, to find another one on the market. And it would be a great loss for us.
"I thought he was going. Because of everything that was said, all the noise that was created. But in the end it all worked out, he stayed with us."
