Lucas Moura makes statement on Tottenham future amid links to Brazil return

Tottenham attacker Lucas Moura has revealed that he wants to make a return to his home country of Brazil and play football there again before the end of his career.

The 29-year-old came to Europe in 2013 when he joined Paris Saint-Germain, where he stayed for five years before moving to north London.

He the Lilywhites in January 2018 and signed a contract until 2023, which would mark his tenth year in Europe.

The Brazilian became an influential part of the team, scoring goals and assisting them in his time at the club, playing a key part in the run to the Champions League final in 2019.

ESPN has revealed that, although Moura isn't done with his time in Europe, it won't be too long until he could be set to return to Sao Paulo.

"It's in my plans to go back to Brazil, back to Sao Paulo. I never hid it from anyone, I never hid the affection and love I feel for Sao Paulo," he added.

"When I left Sao Paulo I said I wanted to stay for 10 years in Europe. Come rain, come shine, my goal, my plan is to stay 10 years."

Since joining Spurs, he has made 106 Premier League appearances, managing to bag 17 goals and 9 assists.

Moura's most memorable moment at Tottenham has to be his hat-trick in the Champions League semi-final, which got his team through to the final in 2019.

Sao Paulo is very close to the winger's heart, which is one reason he wants to make a return.

"I do have a plan to go back to Sao Paulo. I want to feel again what it's like to play at Morumbi, wear that shirt, the club of my heart. But I still have wood to burn. I'm feeling very good physically," he said.

Despite his want to return, Moura admits that he still wants to fulfil his aim of winning silverware with Tottenham.

"I'm playing in a big league, in a big club. I have the goal of winning a title with Tottenham, which I haven't achieved yet. I still have some goals to achieve here."

With new signings and plenty of options in the middle of the field, Moura is going to have to work hard this season to earn and secure a place in Nuno Espirito Santo's starting 11.

The Brazilian still has a couple of years left at the club, so will want to continue his positive influence until then, when he will have a final decision to make about his future.
