Lucas Moura explains why he chose Tottenham Hotspur over Manchester United

The hero of Tottenham Hotspur's Champions League semi-final victory, Lucas Moura, has revealed that he chose the London club over Manchester United because he was only offered a loan deal by the Reds.

Lucas became Tottenham's last signing when he joined the club from PSG in January 2018 and has gone on to be a pivotal player for Spurs, particularly this season.

The Brazilian scored twice in Spurs' 3-0 victory at Old Trafford in August and scored the dramatic hat-trick against Ajax that sent them through to Saturday's Champions League final against Liverpool in Madrid.

United had been heavily linked with Lucas before he made his move to North London and has revealed why he didn't sign for United.

"There was a conversation with United but it was for a loan and I didn’t want a loan,”  Lucas told The Guardian .

“I thought that if I left PSG, I didn’t want to go back.

“When I came to Tottenham, and I saw the training ground and met the coach, I said that I wanted to come here.”

It wasn't the first time United were chasing Lucas, either, as they bid £35m for him before he initially moved to Europe and was playing in Brazil with Sao Paulo.

Sir Alex Ferguson wrote in his 2015 book Leading: "Right towards the end of my time at United we were pursuing Lucas Moura, the immensely talented right winger who, at the time, was playing in his native Brazil for Sao Paulo.

"We offered £24m for him, which was upped to £30m and again to £35m, but Paris Saint-Germain signed him for £45m. David and I were just not prepared to go to those sorts of levels."
