CHICAGO _ It was another chilly afternoon on the South Side on Saturday, and the White Sox lost to the Tigers, 6-1, before an announced crowd of 16,625.
The Sox have lost four of their last five, falling to 3-4.
The game-time temperature was 32 degrees, though it didn't snow as it did Thursday during the home opener.
Lucas Giolito, who took the mound for the Sox in search of his first win, dealt with control issues much of the afternoon and left in the sixth trailing 5-0. The Sox offense was missing all day against Michael Fulmer and the Tigers bullpen, making for a long afternoon.
Miguel Cabrera's two-run single in the third gave the Tigers first blood, and Sox third baseman Yolmer Sanchez bobbled a potential double-play grounder in the fifth, settling for the out at first as the third Tigers run scored.
Giolito hit the first two men he faced in the sixth before serving up a two-out, two-run double to Dixon Machado, prompting his exit.
Giolito allowed five runs on four hits, three walks and three hit batsmen over 52/3 innings, leaving him with a 6.17 ERA after two starts.
Fulmer threw 51/3 shutout innings, scattering six hits and three walks. The Sox had the bases loaded with no outs in the second but failed to score.
They finally pushed a run across against reliever Alex Wilson in the seventh on Avisail Garcia's sacrifice fly.
