Lucas Digne suspension reduced after Everton red card

Lucas Digne has had his suspension reduced to just one match after a successful appeal by Everton.

The Blues said the three match ban facing the left-back, after his red card against Southampton on Sunday, was unfair and launched a case for 'clearly excessive punishment' with the Football Association at the beginning of the week,

Carlo Ancelotti called the decision to send Digne off, for standing on the Achilles of Kyle Walker-Peters, as a "joke" and said the club would appeal.

But instead of pushing for a case of wrongful dismissal, the Blues argued for the ban to be reduced from three matches to one.

And the FA have this evening confirmed an independent regulatory commission have upheld Everton's appeal of 'clearly excessive punishment' and have reduced the ban to just one game.

Digne will miss Sunday's game with Newcastle United - with Niels Nkounkou in line to deputise - but will be back for the game with Manchester United, the following weekend.
