Lucas Digne pushing for Everton return as Carlo Ancelotti stunned by injury recovery

Lucas Digne is pushing his recovery in the hope of being fit to face Wolves next week.

The Everton left-back has made remarkable progress having undergone ankle surgery at the end of November and wants to be available for the trip to Molineux on Tuesday night.

Digne was initially facing up to between two and three months on the sidelines and Carlo Ancelotti had been weighing up the possibility to finding cover in the January transfer window.

But the 27-year-old's rehabilitation has been swift and he is now hoping he can be prove his fitness in order to be selected for the Blues' next Premier League game.

Ancelotti, it is understood, has told Digne he has never seen a player recover so quickly from such a serious injury and the Blues boss could have the France international back in his squad just seven weeks after going under the knife.

Ben Godfrey has produced a string of excellent performances in deputising for Digne and so Ancelotti knows there is no need to bring Digne back before he is 100% fit.

But the £18m signing from Barcelona is pushing his recovery in the hope he could be in contention for next week's game with Wolves

Fabian Delph, meanwhile, is understood to be doing individual sessions at Finch Farm following the hamstring injury which he sustained at the start of December in the game with Burnley.

Everton have yet to put a time on his return but Ancelotti may provide an update at this pre-match press conference later today.
