Lucas Digne makes 'disgraceful' joke over Richarlison tackle on Liverpool's Thiago

Everton defender Lucas Digne has been slammed on social media after appearing to make light of Richarlison's reckless challenge on Liverpool ace Thiago.

Richarlison was shown a straight red card for his lunge which sparked injury fears for Reds midfielder Thiago during Saturday's Merseyside derby.

In the same game, Jordan Pickford was lucky to escape punishment for a similarly agricultural challenge on Virgil van Dijk which left the Liverpool defender needing surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Luckily for Thiago, he appears to have avoided any serious injury following the X-rated tackle from Richarlison - for which the Brazilian later apologised.

But Liverpool fans were fuming when Digne posted a picture on Instagram which appeared to joke about his team-mate's sending-off.

In the picture, the Everton left-back appears to be putting Michael Oliver's red card back into his pocket as the referee deals with the incident.

Digne jokingly captioned the image: "I tried to do my best Pai @richarlison."

But the joke didn't go down well, with one fan sharing the post on Twitter, saying: "Seriously @LucasDigne? Jokingly about your teammate almost breaking someone else’s leg? Disgraceful c**t."

Another wrote: "Digne sees the funny side of Richarlison nearly breaking someone’s leg. Classy."

After Saturday's 2-2 draw at Goodison, Everton forward Richarlison issued an apology to Thiago, saying: "Everyone who knows my background knows that I was never a violent player.

"I did not enter that dispute with the intention of hurting Thiago. When I saw that the crash was going to happen, I picked up my foot and hit him with my knee in the pass, which was inevitable due to the speed of the play.

"I already sent a message to him apologising and I also do it here publicly. I hope he hasn't been hurt and that everything is fine."
