Lucas Digne injury latest as Everton defender faces crucial 24 hours

Lucas Digne is refusing to give up hope on playing for France in their Euro 2020 knockout tie.

Digne's tournament appeared to be over when he came off with a thigh injury in the game with Portugal earlier this week - less than seven minutes after coming on at half-time.

The Everton left-back underwent scans on Thursday and the results have given the 27-year-old the belief his competition may not be over.

France face Switzerland in the last 16 on Monday night and the next 24 hours are crucial in Digne's recovery.

Lucas Hernandez, France's other left-back option, has a knee problem and is rated as highly doubtful for the game in Bucharest.

Digne was visibly upset after being forced off against Portugal, instantly fearing his tournament was over.

The Blues defender arrived at Goodison in the summer of 2018 having missed out on the World Cup squad due to a lack of game-time at club level.

Digne has played 112 times for Everton and soon regained his place in the French squad. He now hopes he can recover in time to play tomorrow night.
