Lucas Digne deal 'could progress quickly' as Premier League side want Everton star

Newcastle United are expected to make a move for Lucas Digne after securing the services of Kieran Trippier.

The Chronicle is reporting that Newcastle have agreed a "deal in principle" with Atletico Madrid for the full-back.

The report goes on to claim that the 31-year-old is scheduled to jet into Newcastle tomorrow morning and hold talks on personal terms but a £15million fee, that could rise to around £25million after add ons, has been verbally agreed.

And now according to a report by The Daily Telegraph, one of Newcastle's next targets is Frenchman Digne, although Sky Sports is reporting that four clubs, including Chelsea and West Ham, are all eyeing the full-back.

But it is claimed in the Telegraph piece that Newcastle, who currently sit bottom of the Premier League, are hoping that a deal could progress quickly for the left-back to join the club.

“We are taking it one transfer at a time,” a Newcastle source told the Telegraph.

“The market is a difficult one for us, clubs are quoting a lot of money for the players we want and some are simply not for sale, but we are working through things and more will follow after Tripper.

“We are close on a few things, but this is football and you never know what is going to happen until they are actually signed.”

Digne was recalled to the Everton squad for the first time in four matches on Sunday after a disagreement with Rafa Benitez and illness.

But the French international only made the bench, with Benitez preferring the right-footed Seamus Coleman on the left hand side.

Digne would not be brought off the bench as Benitez used only two of his permitted substitutions in the 3-2 defeat to Brighton.

And Everton strengthened their left-back options last week with the signing of Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kyiv for an undisclosed fee.
