Luca Connell released by Celtic as Queen's Park spell fails to ignite Parkhead resurgence

Celtic have released highly-rated midfielder Luca Connell after a loan spell at Queen's Park.

The Premiership champions have decided not to take up his final year option.

The 21-year-old is now a free agent and considering his options on both sides of the border.

Celtic paid around £350,000 to take the midfielder from Bolton Wanderers back in 2019.

But the Irishman has struggled to make his mark on the Celtic first-team.

The majority of his first-team playing time has come on-loan in his two spells at Queen’s Park where he helped them gain promotion to the Championship last season via the playoffs.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 cap also helped the Spiders to win promotion from League Two and he's enjoyed back-to-back promotions.

It remains to be seen whether Owen Coyle will swoop to take him back permanently.

The news comes after Kerr McInroy was let go after his loan spell at Ayr United.

The 21-year-old is being targeted by Ayrshire rivals Kilmarnock and could be playing Premiership football against the Hoops next season.
