Luca Connell pictured at Celtic Park ahead of potential transfer

Republic of Ireland youngster Luca Connell has been pictured at Celtic Park ahead of a potential transfer.

The Bolton midfielder is a target for the Hoops and he's set to leave the cash-strapped English League One side when his contract expires later this month, reports The Daily Record.

Tottenham and Southampton are among the clubs interested in signing the 18-year-old as he ponders his next move.

But the Hoops appear to have stolen a march on their English counterparts with Connell being given the VIP treatment at Parkhead on Thursday.

A picture has surfaced online showing the player and Celtic chief Peter Lawwell emerging from the tunnel.

Connell admitted earlier this week it'd be a privilege to play for the Glasgow giants and the teenager would be available for a cut-price £250,000 cross border development fee.

"Everyone knows Celtic are a massive club," said the youngster, who's set to join up with Ireland U-19s at next month's European Championships.

"It’d be an honour to represent them if that’s what the final decision is. I’m keeping my options open and hopefully I can take the right one in the next few weeks.

“I just want to make sure I’m playing, wherever I go.

“I’ve read in the media that lots of big clubs are interested but I think at this age it’s important to be playing. Then hopefully the money will come with that.

“It has been a busy summer. I’ve had quite a few clubs interested but they come and go by the day. Let’s see which ones stick by me.

“I'm sure that my agent will have something sorted out for me one way or the other and with what's best for me.”

Reports in England claim Celtic are waiting only on Bolton's administrators to appoint a preferred bidder to make the move happen.

The administrators hope to make an announcement later this week.
