A woman was left ‘shocked’ when a Luas ticket machine did not issue her any change from a €20 note.
The passenger took to Twitter to express her annoyance after discovering she had no change to pay for the ticket and had to break a larger note.
After putting the money into the machine, the woman said she expected to receive 'a rain of twos' but instead was shown a message on the screen that asked her to call Luas Customer Services to get her refund.
She said: “Sort of shocked. I had no change for the @Luas home, so had to break a twenty in the machine. Was expecting a rain of twos to use as fare: but it ate my twenty?

“And I have to phone up to get my change? How do I get it like? This is pretty messed up stuff?”
She added: “I know this is small fry but I’m really surprised that it straight up issued me a ticket and didn’t give me any change, what if you were really f***ing stuck? Since when do ticket machines not give change, @Luas?”
The woman urged people to be aware that you may not get any change when buying a ticket for the public transport service.

She said: “I guess be aware if you’re buying a ticket that there’s no change coming. P hostile interfacing there like, what a horrible surprise”.
Other users were left outraged at the incident as they agreed that the lack of change could affect someone not carrying more money on them.
One user said: “Jaysis. What if this was literally the only money someone had???”
Another said: “If @Luas couldn’t give you change perhaps the machine shouldn’t have taken your money. That €16.90 is yours. @Luas have no right to take it.”
Some people offered up solutions on how the Luas could avoid unfortunate situations like this one.
They said: “Wow… They could at least give you a choice before issuing the ticket. “Change cannot be given, do you want to proceed?” or sth. Presumptuous is what that is”.
The Luas has said it will arrange a refund for the woman.
