Luas chiefs are investigating after a complaint about security staff allegedly wolf-whistling at women.
Transdev confirmed yesterday the matter was being treated seriously and was “under investigation”.
A passenger contacted Luas via social media on Friday claiming to have witnessed an incident at the O’Connell Street Lower stop in Dublin city centre.
The man wrote: “Your security personnel whistling and cat-calling women... is not a good look, and certainly doesn’t instill a sense of security in female commuters using your service.
“It was about 10.08am at the O’Connell Street Lower stop.
“Two male security guards and two male ticket inspectors (who briefly joined in) whistling at and cat-calling passing women across the road from the stop platform.”
It is understood Transdev Ireland, which operates the Luas network, will examine CCTV footage as part of its probe into the allegations.
A Luas spokesperson told Dublin Live: “We take such
allegations very seriously and we are conducting a formal investigation into this complaint. We are not in a
position to comment further pending the outcome of the investigation.”
Questions have been raised about tactics used by Luas security after footage was posted on social media which showed passengers being
physically restrained.
The videos emerged across internet platforms last September.
In one case, two officers are seen holding a man down on the ground while the man can be heard telling them he can’t breathe.
