LSU Trolls Rival Heisman Trophy Candidates With Las Vegas Billboard

Two Heisman Trophy candidates will be featured in Friday night’s Pac-12 championship game, with Oregon’s Bo Nix and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. matching up in a rivalry rematch.

However, LSU wants to remind fans attending the game in Las Vegas that its quarterback is also a Heisman contender, if not the favorite for the award.

To wit, a billboard in at the intersection of Interstate 15 and Flamingo Road in Vegas is touting Jayden Daniels as the best player in college football. He has a strong case for Heisman honors, having thrown for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns with 1,134 rushing yards and another 10 scores on the ground.

The Tigers’ 9–3 record might be held against Daniels compared to Penix being undefeated (12–0) with the Huskies and Nix only losing once (11–1) with the Ducks.

Las Vegas isn’t the only city where LSU has planted a flag for Daniels. The school boldly put up the same billboard promoting its quarterback for the Heisman in Seattle near the University of Washington, in addition to two in metro Detroit, presumably as a statement against Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy. No Daniels billboards have been reported anywhere in Oregon, however.

Daniels may have to hope for Nix and Penix to play poorly in the Pac-12 championship to have a chance at the Heisman. On the other hand, it’s possible Nix and Penix could split votes from the West Coast and open the door for Daniels.

Oregon and Washington will play for the Pac-12 championship Friday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on ABC.
