LSU coach on Greedy Williams: ‘He’s got an alpha mentality’

Questions about his tackling, his intensity and his willingness to stick to the defensive structure dogged Greedy Williams in the draft process. They helped pave a fall from a widely projected top-15 talent to Williams being on the board in the middle of the second round.

The Cleveland Browns traded up to land the LSU cornerback at No. 46 overall. Williams’ coach with the Tigers believes the Browns landed an absolute steal and the questions about his game are greatly exaggerated.

In a recent interview with Ohio.com, LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda showered his former player with praise.

“He’s got an alpha mentality,” Aranda said.

As for the tackling, Aranda sees Williams differently than the draft analysts and NFL teams.

“I remember Greedy being a real aggressive player,” Aranda said. “I remember him having no fear of tackling. I remember him putting his face on people and getting guys who are much bigger than him down.”

He does acknowledge an issue at the end of Williams’ tenure under him at LSU.

“Those last couple games at the end of this last season, it just wasn’t like that,” Aranda admitted.

Williams joins Denzel Ward, Terrance Mitchell and T.J. Carrie in a talented CB room in Cleveland.
