Loyal Jack Russell dies saving 10-year-old owner from terrifying wolf attack

A hero Jack Russell gave her life to save her 10-year-old owner from a wolf attack.

The young boy, named as Yemelyan, was playing hide and seek with his siblings in Russia’s northern Komi Republic.

He hid in a pile of snow unaware that a wolf had emerged from the nearby forest.

But the loyal dog, Jessie, spotted the danger to Yemelyan and immediately ran to challenge the wolf.

CCTV footage recorded the little boy hiding in the snow pile and the wolf crossing the road, likely preparing to attack.

Jessie was also caught on camera dashing at high speed towards the wolf.

Tragically the terrier's yell was also recorded as he was attacked by the dog. His cry alerted Yemelyan who was able to escape danger and tell his parents about the attack.

Yemelyan's father Ruslan summoned his friends including local hunters and rushed outside.

The wolf dropped the dog - which was clenched in its mouth - and fled into the forest.

Jessie was found still alive but severely wounded and covered in flood.

She died soon afterwards in the arms of Yemelyan’s mother Marina on the way to the clinic in the regional capital Syktyvkar.

“I called my friends and they quickly arrived, following the wolf's trail,” he said.

“The tragedy happened at about 7pm and 20 minutes later we rescued the dog.

“The wolf dropped the dog, feeling he was being trailed.

“The dog was still alive, we brought her to the vet clinic, it is about 200 kilometres (125 miles) away, but they said they could not do anything, and just injected a painkiller.

“We drove on to Syktyvkar, and they promised to help, but the dog died in the arms of my wife.”

Hunters have now secured permission to kill the wolf, which is believed to have been stalking Yemelyan’s home in the village of Sindor, according to reports.

Ruslan said that recently wolves had attacked dogs in the village but locals now fear children are also in danger from the predators.
