Lowry signs new Rangers deal as long-term contract ends transfer speculation

Alex Lowry signs new Rangers deal as long-term contract ends Premier League speculation

ALEX LOWRY committed his future to Rangers and in turn ended speculation linking him with the Premier League by signing a new contract at Ibrox.

The 18-year-old agreed new terms with Rangers which will keep him at the club until at least 2025.

Lowry has been a regular in the Rangers B team this season but also made his first-team debut in the Scottish Cup win over Stirling Albion as he scored the opener back in January.

The creative midfielder has gone on to make three further appearances for the Ibrox top team and has been part of the matchday squad in the Europa League.

The new Ibrox deal comes as Premier League clubs were credited with serious interest in the youngster who had one-year left on his contract before the extension.

Saudi-rich duo Manchester City and Newcastle United were among those linked with Lowry, but Rangers acted quickly to secure his services.

Sharing his delight at finalising his new contract, Lowry said: “I want to thank Ross Wilson, Craig Mulholland and the boss for giving me the chance and for showing faith in me.

“I can only thank them and hopefully I can repay them by kicking on now and getting more and more games and good performances under my belt for this great club.”

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson haild Lowry’s development this season as he pointed to the exciting youth talents in the ranks at Auchenhowie.

And Wilson insisted he’s certain Lowry will continue to provide moments of magic in the future for Rangers as the backroom staff work to aid his development in Glasgow.

The Ibrox recruitment guru said: “Alex has progressed really well across the season and we are pleased to have rewarded his development with this contract extension.

“Alex is part of an exciting group of young players who we have progressed to the first-team group from the Academy.

“He has already shown our fans moments of what he can do and we are sure there will be more of them to enjoy in the future as he continues to work hard on all aspect of his development."
