'Lowlife' thief filmed on dog camera raiding house as family slept

A 'scumbag thief' was caught on camera after breaking into a house as a family slept.

The man was seen prowling around the living room of the home in Bishopton on Sunday night.

The brazen crook, who was wearing a hat and face mask, was caught on a camera installed in the house the family use to watch their dog.

The robber made off with a handbag during the early morning raid after it appears he was spooked by the camera recording, the Daily Record reports.

A six-second clip taken in the living room shows a man crossing the room and looking around as he enters.

He then turns around and appears to look directly into the camera lens before the footage cuts off.

It is understood other houses in Durness Avenue, in the Dargavel area were targeted and high-end electronics and car keys taken.

The victim's mum Wendy McLardie shared the footage on social media in a bid to identify the thief.

She wrote: "Intruder breaking into my daughter and partner's house in Dargavel last night, f***ing dirty scumbag. If anyone recognises this lowlife please PM or call police."

Wendy told the Record neighbours had informed them they had also been broken into on Thursday night.

She added: "Their main concern is that the police do not follow up, their neighbours had car keys stolen and an iPad, they have been tracked to a street in Paisley.

"Apparently the police have said they don’t have enough evidence to get a warrant to search the person home of the name we have been given."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 2.30pm on Monday, November 22, officers received a report of a break-in to a property in the Durness Avenue of Bishopton. The incident is believed to have taken place in the early hours of that morning. Enquiries into the matter are at an early stage."
