Lowlife burglars snatch Longbenton pensioner's cash 'while he watches TV'

Burglars have swiped a Longbenton pensioner's money as he sat next door watching the telly.

Around £270 was snatched after the sneaky thieves broke in through a bedroom window and helped themselves to the cash.

Northumbria Polic e are investigating Tuesday's burglary, which happened at a home in Fairways Avenue.

“Offenders gained access to the address while the occupant was in another room and stole a sum of money, before making off," said a force spokesperson.

“Inquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible."

Forensic officers are understood to have visited the property on Wednesday, when the raid was first reported.

The money is understood to have been on the victim's dresser table when it was stolen.

Northumbria Police would like anyone with information to make contact via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of the force's website.
