Jordan, a hair stylist, who lives on nearby Blackpool Terrace, said: "We're absolutely freezing and we're absolutely soaked but we just thought we had to do something to help when the flooding started about 3pm.

"It's been awful, the water is up to people's steps and it's not a very happy time for the residents but hopefully tomorrow will bring some respite.

"The poor woman in her 80s was really quite shock and was trying to barricade herself in."

The torrential rain which hit West Yorkshire has caused problems across the region with several key roads closed. Our liveblog has helped residents keep up with what's been happening.
