Lower league fans slam Premiership 'special treatment' as SPFL hold fire on Celtic title call

It was always going to spark debate after the SPFL unveiled the plan to conclude the Championship, League One and League Two clubs.

If the teams vote through the proposal titles and relegations will be handed out in the lower divisions without another ball being kicked.

The play-off games would also be cancelled and Dundee United, Raith and Cove Rangers would be promoted with Partick Thistle and Stranraer sent down on the basis of a points per game average.

Any decision comes with the promise of league reconstruction talks, but before any proposals are put forward regarding the Premiership and Celtic's bid for nine-in-a-row.

Lanarkshire Live Sport asked fans for their view on the latest announcement, and if it was fair to the local sides?

Airdrie fan Willie G added: "Football is finished if this happens. I for one won’t be back."

On Twitter, D Rox said: "Why should the Premiership be any different?

"Surely it has to be the same for all and not special treatment or different rules for one league than the rest?"

Derek Russell added on social media: "Of course it's not 'fair' but in the event the season has to be abandoned, short of league reconstruction, no solution will be fair."

Buchanan Smith admitted it's a tough call for the governing body but said it's in the best interests of struggling sides: "You won’t satisfy everybody.

"The longer it goes the more complicated it gets with player contracts and finishing the season during what should be the start of next season is not plausible.

"Important that clubs still see sponsorship money which will help all clubs survive."

Albion Rovers hope for government support to pay players (ARFC)

Albion Rovers supporter David Crichton continued: "Seems reasonable and logical but that rarely figures in Scottish footy."

Michael Horn also shared concerns about the decisions on the top flight and the impact on Hamilton Accies relegation plight, adding: "Fairly sure things will be reconstructed to make 14/16 team top league, saving Hearts and then bringing up a few others."
