Lower Hunter emergency crews kept busy in storm

Wet and wild: commuters board the Newcastle light rail on Tuesday afternoon.

Lower Hunter State Emergency Service crews responded to 81 calls for assistance in the past 24 hours.

After hours duty officer Mandy Bramble said the majority of the calls came from coastal areas around the Central Coast and Port Stephens.

"Most of the calls were for leaking roofs and tree branches," she said.

"There are another 15 jobs we need to get to today."
