Low turnout on Mauni Amavasya in Haridwar

HARIDWAR: Low turnout was witnessed at Har-ki-Pauri ghat on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya on Tuesday.

Ganga Sabha officials said not many showed up at Brahma Kund, with other Ganga ghats in the city, too, wearing a deserted look.

Local traders were expecting an increase in tourist footfall on Mauni Amavasya but had to meet with disappointment.

On being asked about the reason behind the low turnout, former Ganga Sabha president Ram Kumar Mishra said that the number of pilgrims was less due to the pandemic as well as cold weather. "The recent ban on ritual bath on Makar Sankranti festival also impacted the footfall. People thought there may be similar restrictions for Mauni Amavasya too," he added.
