Iranian-backed Houthi militias have been quick in slamming the United Nations and its officials following accusations made against the insurgents of looting food aid provided by the World Food Programme (WFP).
Although many Yemeni analysts and activists have criticized the UN leniency towards the group, Houthis have not shied away from condemning the organization and denying its accusations.
Head of coup militia Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, who is considered a low-ranking official, accused on Twitter the UN of being a US subordinate.
The Houthi version of Saba news agency has also published accusations against international agencies, claiming they are harming the revolt.
Houthis were referring to the WFP’s report in which it accused the insurgents of stealing "from the mouths of hungry people" and diverting food deliveries.
“Militias are waging a war against the UN to avoid the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement” reached earlier this month on a ceasefire in Yemen, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Hamza al-Kamali told Asharq Al-Awsat.
He said that the leniency of some UN officials towards Houthis has pushed them into a “confrontation” against international agencies.
