Low Moss prison Covid outbreak as 25 inmates test positive

Prison chiefs are dealing with a coronavirus outbreak at Scottish Prison Service after 25 inmates tested positive.

The source of the outbreak is currently unknown however ‘a significant number’ of prisoners are now self-isolating after potentially being exposed to the virus.

The cluster of cases is understood to be limited to a single hall - Kelvin - where strict infection control measures are in place.

The Scottish Prison Service said they are working closely with other agencies in a bid to prevent cases rising.

A spokesperson said: “The safety and wellbeing of all those living and working in our establishments is a priority for the Scottish Prison Service.

“There are currently 25 confirmed cases of COVID amongst those in our care at HMP Low Moss.

“A significant number of individuals are also self-isolating due to potential contact with individuals who have subsequently tested positive.

“We continue to work closely with Public Health colleagues in managing these cases”
