Movie preview: Venom comes to town
From director Ruben Fleischer comes Venom, starring Tom Hardy as the titular anti-hero in a superhero movie with a twist.
Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is a brave but arrogant investigative journalist. He’s convinced that the founder of the Life Foundation, the brilliant but sinister Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), is involved in criminal activities. Eddie is determined to expose Drake and his obsession eventually ruins his career and his relationship with girlfriend Anne Weying (Michelle Williams).
When Eddie breaks into Drake’s laboratory, he discovers that Drake has been experimenting on humans with a type of alien parasite called a symbiote. When one of the symbiotes merges with Eddie, a remarkable transformation takes place. Eddie now coexists in his own body with Venom — a being with incredible powers that allow him to do almost anything he wants. Venom is not evil, but he is violent and unpredictable. And while Eddie wants to use his new powers for good, he finds it hard to control himself. As Eddie and Venom become more and more intertwined, it becomes more difficult to tell where Eddie ends and Venom begins.
