Tributes have been paid to an ex RAF officer who died in hospital a week after being involved in a serious crash.
Michael James Clancy, 74, who was from the Connah’s Quay area, was injured in a collision involving two cars on the B5126 Mold Road near Northop shortly before 6pm on Monday September 30.
Firefighters, paramedics and an air ambulance were sent to the scene and Mr Clancy was taken to hospital in Stoke.
Following news of his death, the pensioner's family have issued a moving tribute to him through North Wales Police.
They said: “Michael J.T Clancy aka ‘Tes’ was a loving, kind and caring family man who was an inspiration to all around him. Showing immense support towards his family – he encouraged them to be the best people they could be.
“He had an extensive 44 year military career after serving in the RAF, Army and UN. He was well loved within the local community, helping many throughout his life. He was a devout Roman Catholic and volunteered so much for the Church.
“He was the greatest husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and brother in law. He will be missed by all around him.”
Sergeant Nicola Grimes-Williams of the Roads Policing Unit said: “We’re continuing to investigate the collision which involved a Toyota and a Chevrolet.
“Mr Clancy was taken to hospital in Stoke with serious injuries, however sadly, he died on 7 October and our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this difficult time.
“We are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dash cam footage and are yet to contact us, to do so as soon as possible.”
