Loving grandad, 74, named as victim of fire in Bishopston, Swansea

An elderly man and popular landscape gardener has been named as the victim of a devastating fire which has shocked and stunned locals in Swansea.

Francis Morgan, 74, died following the blaze at a farm just off Bishopston Road, Bishopston, on Tuesday.

Mystery still surrounds the cause of the fatal fire.

And while the body of Mr Morgan has not yet been formally identified, police said his family have been informed.

Following the fire, the property was sealed off for sometime while investigations were carried out.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "We are continuing to investigate with the fire and rescue service the fatal fire off Bishopston Road on April 16.

"The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but it’s not being treated as suspicious or malicious.

"The HM Coroner has been updated, and although official ID has not yet taken place the family of 74-year-old Francis Morgan who lived at the property have been informed."

Neighbours in the area have expressed their shock at the news.

One resident, who has asked not to be named, said: "Francis was a lovely man. He lived there with his son and wife and his grandchildren. His whole family were lovely and very hard-working.

"Everyone is in shock."

Another added: "He has been in the village a long time. He kept himself to himself but was always polite and said hello."
