Loving dog who always looks sad placed on RSPCA's 'red list'

Despite being a happy-go-lucky dog, Kara always has a sad expression plastered across her face.

Four-year-old Kara has been patiently waiting at the RSPCA's Longview Kennels branch in Blackpool for an owner to take her home - but nobody seems to want her.

The crossbreed has been added to the RSPCA's red list, which aims to help "extra-special animals" find loving homes.

A RSPCA statement reads: "Kara arrived in our care after her previous owner was no longer able to give her the care she needed.

"She is such a sweet girl who has a playful and very affectionate nature.

"Kara can be a little nervous when she first meets you however once she has built trust with you, she will be your best friend."

Kara is thought to have lived a sheltered life with staff saying "we don't think she has seen much of the outside world in her previous home".

"She would benefit from further training and socialising which will help her settle and build confidence," the spokesperson added.

"Kara will walk out with other dogs but can be very mixed in her reactions to certain ones more so if they enter her personal space so for that reason."

The black and white dog has been experiencing issues with her ears and needs regular steroid-spiked ear cleaner to manage her problem.

The spokesperson said: "This treatment will need to continue in her new home.

"She has also had surgery on one her eyes to fix an entropion which is a condition in which her eyelid had turned inwards causing her eyelashes to rub against the surface of her eye leaving her in discomfort.

Kara needs to be an only pet in a adult-only home. Her new owners would have to have low leaving hours because she can only spend a few hours alone.

"Previous dog experience is essential in particular with larger breeds. Kara is looking for an active home to match her energetic nature," said the spokesperson.

To rehome Kara, or any other animals at Longview Kennels, contact their team on 01253 703000 or via email mapenquiries@rspcablackpool.org.uk.

The centre is open between 11am and 3pm Tuesday to Sunday.
