A 43-year-old man has died following a crash on the A525 in Coedpoeth, near Wrexham. Sion Jones, who served in the 22nd Regiment Royal Artillery, known as the Welsh Gunners, was well-known in the area and his family have paid tribute to his "kind nature" and smile which would "light up a room".
Police are investigating the crash and have appealed for witnesses who were in the area at approximately 9.50pm on Tuesday, May 2. The crash involved a pedestrian and a Ford Focus. Mr Jones, from the Coedpoeth area, died at the scene.
Mr Jones' family said: "Sion served in the 22 Regiment Royal Artillery, The Welsh Gunners for four years and was a well-known character in Coedpoeth. Sion was a loving father, son, and brother. He had a kind nature and was known to everyone by his smile which would light up a room. We are all devastated by his passing. He was loved by all of us and will be greatly missed.”
A North Wales Police spokesperson added: "Officers continue to appeal to anybody who may have been travelling through Coedpoeth prior to the collision and who may have dash cam footage, or anybody who may have witnessed the collision and who is yet to speak to them to make contact as soon as possible.
"Anybody with information that could assist with the ongoing investigation is urged to contact officers at the Roads Policing Unit via the website or by calling 101, quoting reference number 23000371708."
