'Lovely move from Marina!' - Chelsea fans have a David Luiz theory following Arsenal defeat

Chelsea were handed a massive boost during the midweek round of Premier League fixtures.

Following last weekend's shock home defeat at the hands of West Ham United their lead over Tottenham Hotspur in the race to seal a top four spot as cut to six points.

However, four days later that advantage was restored as the Blues overcame Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge while the Lilywhites were beaten 2-1 away at Manchester United.

Lampard delighted with transfer embargo being lifted

Whilst Wolves are now the nearest challengers to Frank Lampard's side at the moment, it's looking like the Blues are on course to being London's best team in the Premier League this season.

And there was more good news on Thursday night.

Arsenal's home defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion means the Gunners trail the west London outfit by 10 points and the two meet at the Emirates Stadium later this month.

That will mark David Luiz's first appearance against his former club following his surprise switch in the summer.

Yet some Chelsea fans have noticed that things haven't gone too well for the centre-back since leaving.

With him in the side the Gunners have a minus one goal difference in the Premier League and are without a win across any competition since mid-October.

All the signs are pointing towards it being a great decision to allow Luiz to leave.

But is there more to it?

Luiz was marginally at fault for Neal Maupay's winning goal on Thursday night and in truth hasn't shored up the Gunners' defence following his £8m summer transfer.

This has prompted an hilarious theory among some Blues fans that the Brazilian was sent to north London to prevent them from making the Champions League - just like he did in the Europa League final last season.
