A mechanic who was involved in a crash and later assaulted died after taking drugs and alcohol.
On January 7 Leon Faulkner was involved in a "minor traffic collision", police coroner's officer Stefan Wilson told Bolton Coroner's Court.
Later the same day, the 36-year-old was assaulted.
When he returned to his home in Forester Hill Avenue, Great Lever, he drank alcohol and took a number of drugs including heroin and cocaine.
After becoming unresponsive, paramedics took him to Royal Bolton Hospital, and he was pronounced dead at 5.01pm.
Following a toxicity report, Mr Faulkner's cause of death has been recorded as: "1a heroin, cocaine, alcohol, benzodiazepine and pregabalin toxicity."
Following his death, one of Mr Faulkner's neighbours described him as "a really nice guy", who was "willing to help anyone".
Another said: "He was such a lovely person.
"Any time you needed help Leon would be there, he was caring."
Alan Walsh, acting senior coroner for Manchester West, opened the inquest into Mr Faulkner's death and confirmed that a police investigation is still ongoing.
Mr Walsh adjourned the inquest for a review on July 3.
