Lovely letter sent to gardai after first episode of Virgin Media's The Guards: Inside the K

A lovely letter has been sent to a garda station following the first episode of The Guards: Inside the K.

The programme aired for the first time on Virgin Media One on Wednesday night - and it was a hit with viewers at home.

The show documents the daily work carried out by officers in the Dublin's K district, which covers Blachardstown, Cabra and Finglas.

And on Thursday morning, one grateful member of the public popped a card down to staff at Blachardstown Garda Station.

It said: "Having seen that programme last evening, I must express my gratitude, respect and pride in how you go about your daily duties.

"Your professionalism, kindness, humanity and even humour as you face the daily challenges in the unknown is empowering.

"Thank you for all you do to protect the public."

During the programme, Chief Superintendent Finbarr Murphy said: "DMR West has the potential to be one of finest places in Ireland and there are some people already enjoying that already.

"However, the behaviour of a few presents huge challenges.

"Even the worst estates have ordinary, decent people in them. There’s no shortage of decent people out there.

"But day in day out, we’re not dealing with the good people, we’re dealing with the bad people."

The Guards: Inside the K is a five-part series which airs on Virgin Media One on Wednesday's at 9pm.
