Tributes have been paid to a young man who died in a Boxing Day tragedy.

The news prompted a further wave of touching messages in his memory, and in support of his family.

Friends repeatedly described Mr Caveney as “lovely” as they remembered him in social media posts.

One wrote: “Such terribly sad news - Owen was such a lovely young man. RIP.”

Another message added: “My heart goes out to his mum and the boys, he was such a lovely lad, will be sadly missed. Our boys grew up together, RIP Owen - gone but not forgotten.”

Others who did not know him also offered their condolences, with this reader summing up the thoughts expressed by many: “RIP young man. Sympathy and blessing to his family and friends. There is no good time to have a beloved ripped from your lives but, Christmas makes it more profound, sadly.”

Mr Caveney was pulled from the water on Boxing Day morning but emergency service crews dispatched to the scene were unable to save him.

Bouquets of flowers, many with touching messages attached, have been left close to the lake in his memory.

One read: "Love you brother, take care."

Another added: "Rest easy brother, will always love and miss you! Until we meet again, take care."

The message written inside another bouquet said: "Thanks for all of the memories lad. Love ye bro. Rest easy."

Merseyside Police said the death was being treated as unexplained pending the outcome of a post mortem, but have asked for witnesses or anyone with details that might help the investigation to contact officers by calling the force on 101 or via Twitter (@MerPolCC).
