'Lovely lad' stabbed to death days before Christmas

Tributes have been paid to a "lovely lad" who was stabbed to death days before Christmas.

Police and paramedics were called to Princess Drive in Huyton in the early hours of Sunday, December 19, to reports that a man had been stabbed in the chest.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he died.

The man's age has not yet been confirmed by police.

Princess Drive and Aspes Road were sealed off by officers on Sunday as a murder investigation got underway.

The investigation is in its early stages and police are keen to speak to anyone with information that could assist their enquiries.

People were left shocked and saddened by the news on Sunday, as some took to social media to share their condolences with the man's family.

Leaving a message on the ECHO's Facebook page, Tracy Perry said: "How sad. This needs to stop. His poor family."

Loraine Deakin said: "I can't get over this, such a lovely lad. RIP mate."

Celine Sutter said: "Thoughts go to his family, especially his mum."

Gemma Roberts said: "Still can’t get over this news today. Heartbreaking for his partner and kids. Thinking of you all xx."

Marg Welsh said: "So sad RIP xx."

Moira Berry said: "This is sickening, why do people feel the need to use weapons."

Forensics officers were seen searching for evidence behind a property on Princess Drive earlier today.

Detective Superintendent Stephen Reardon said: “An investigation is now underway which we’re currently in the very early stages of however it is vital that anyone with information that could assist our enquiries gets in touch.

“This was a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life. If you live in the area and witnessed the incident, or saw any suspicious behaviour this morning on Princess Drive please contact police immediately. Any information, no matter how small, may prove vital to our investigation.”
