Loved ones bid farewell to 'cherished' ambulance worker Georgia Barron who died aged 24

Heartbroken friends and family have bid farewell to a much-loved ambulance care assistant who had a "long and successful life ahead of her".

Georgia Barron was a "valued friend and colleague" who tragically lost her life suddenly on May 15 at the age of 24.

The popular Wallsend lass was studying to be a paramedic - a career that had her "bursting with pride" with the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS).

Devastated loved ones gathered on Friday to say their final goodbyes to Georgia, who was a "cherished" daughter, sister, auntie, friend and colleague.

Remembering Georgia, colleagues and friends said: "She was a much-loved colleague and friend to us all.

"She had a long and successful life ahead of her. She had a contagious excitement about studying to be a paramedic and was bursting with pride.

"Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Georgia knew that she was ambulance service through and through.

"She always managed to put a smile on both her colleagues' and patients' faces."

Georgia was an ambulance care assistant with the patient transport service and had worked for the trust for two years.

She gained an entry level to apply for Sunderland University and, with encouragement from her colleagues, she was offered a place to study paramedic science.

Georgia had recently passed all of her first-year exams and began her placements with the emergency care teams at NEAS.

Her devastated family have said she loved every day working at the ambulance service, seeing everyone and working alongside her colleagues.

NEAS said Georgia had built a network of friendships and will be "greatly missed" by staff, students and patients alike.

Mark Willis, programme leader for Paramedic Science and Out of Hospital Care at the University of Sunderland, described Georgia as an "exceptional trainee".

He said: "Georgia was an exceptional trainee who demonstrated everything a student paramedic should be.

"She will be a huge miss to friends, colleagues, staff and the whole of the university.

"We have passed our deepest sympathies on to her family and we are offering support to any student who needs it at this difficult time."
