'Love your work': Suella Braverman invites heckler on stage in awkward exchange

SUELLA Braverman was involved in an awkward exchange with a heckler at the Political Cartoon of the Year awards.

In a video widely circulated on social media, Braverman was telling people how one cartoon depicted her as “the girl from The Exorcist”, which had been described in one review as “disturbing in a very entertaining way”.

The former home secretary added: “I’m not sure if that’s a compliment, I don’t think it is.”

A heckler could then be heard shouting “it’s not”, which was met with laughter from the crowd although Braverman seemed less impressed.

The Standard journalist Ethan Croft posted the footage on Twitter/X and said the heckler was Rebecca Hendin – a cartoonist with The Guardian.

In response to the comment, Braverman said: “Would you like to come up? You’ve got so much to say.”

The heckler made their way onto the stage and said it was “so nice to meet you” before a host stepped onto the stage and joked: “We’ll do the boxing match afterwards. Let Suella finish.”

As the woman left the stage, she said: “Love you, love your work.”

Braverman was sacked by Rishi Sunak last month following comments she made in the Times where she attacked London’s police force for what she claimed was bias in favour of left-wing protesters.
