'Love you wee man' Brother's moving tribute to boy, 12, who died in River Tay tragedy

The brother of a 12-year-old boy who tragically died after getting into difficulty playing watersports in the River Tay has paid a moving tribute to the schoolboy.

passed away in hospital on Tuesday morning after being rescued from the River Tay on Sunday.

Water rescue teams from the fire service were called into action to help Kayden as police and air ambulance crews rushed to the scene.

He was flown to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where he lost his fight for life.

Older brother Kai Thomson penned a heartbreaking tribute to the youngster who he 'loved with all his heart.'

He wrote: "There’s no words I could say to make this any easier.

"Woke up this morning, done the usual scroll through Facebook and then 5 minutes later I remember the absolute nightmare of the last two nights and it all begins to sink in all over again.

"You really don’t know what’s around the corner and in my mind I still don’t fully believe it all.

"I make this promise to you now Kayden, Jude will always grow up knowing just how much of an amazing big brother he had from both what he remembers and what we will all tell him.

"Your up there with granda now so look after each other. I love you wee man with all my heart. Until we meet again.

"You really where simply the best."

He shared pictures of Kayden with their younger brother Jude alongside the heartbreaking tribute.

It comes after dozens of family friends took to social media to pay tribute to the youngster.

Kiera Haughian wrote: “Rip kayden absolutely devastating news always had a smile on your face whenever I seen you fly high wee man.”

Natalie Wilson said: “Rip kayden thinking of charlene and the family at this devastating time."

Debbie Mullen wrote: “RIP kayden thoughts and prayers go out to your mum brothers and family so so sad.”

Friends have organised a balloon release for Monday 5 August at Crownpoint, Glasgow at 3.30pm.

Morgan Brewer wrote: “This boy was taken far too soon and should be celebrated.

"He always made people smile and laugh and we will miss you Kayden.”

It’s understood Kayden, who has three brothers, was a pupil at St Mungo’s Academy in Bridgeton, Glasgow.

The incident happened on a stretch of the Tay near the village of Stanley in Perthshire.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland’s Tayside division said: “Police Scotland can confirm that sadly the 12-year-old who got into difficulties in the River Tay near Stanley on Sunday, July 28 has died in hospital in the early hours of this morning.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very tragic time."

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
