‘Love you always mum’ Tributes paid to Scots Tesco worker who died within days of colleague at Covid-hit store

Tributes have been paid to a ‘beautiful’ Scots mum who lost her life amid fears of a coronavirus outbreak at a Scots Tesco store.

Ann Weir’s heartbroken family confirmed she passed away last week while a second staff member at the Greenock Extra branch in Inverclyde also lost his life.

Colleagues of the two are said to be ‘devastated’ by the tragic losses but store bosses have so far refused to confirm the total number of positive Covid-19 found at the site.

It was reported that a number of employees at the store and its neighbouring Port Glasgow branch were self-isolating last week.

Leading tributes to Ann, daughter Danielle wrote: “It is with a heavy heart my dad and I announce the passing of our beautiful partner and mum Ann Weir.

“She was one of a kind and loved dearly by many. Love you always mum.”

A heartbroken colleague added: “Worked with Ann in Tesco. She never passed without a cheery hello. God bless her.”

A third said: “So Sad. Anne was a lovely girl. Thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.”

Another pal added: “Words cannot describe how we all feel at the moment. Your mum was lovely, kind to everyone. RIP Ann will be sadly missed.”

A further tribute read: “So sorry to hear this sad news. Ann was a lovely person. I will miss her so much having worked with her for 28 years.”

When approached by the Record, Tesco would not comment on the amount of coronavirus cases at the store but said the safety of colleagues, customers and suppliers was a priority.

It said all government guidance was being followed, including track and trace requirements, and extensive measures were in place in stores to protect shoppers.

A spokesperson added: “We are really sad that two colleagues from our Greenock Extra have passed away.

"Our thoughts are with their families and we are supporting our store colleagues at this difficult time.”
