Love Saves The Day urges festival-goers to take covid test as cases remain high in Bristol

Love Saves The Day organisers have urged revellers who attended the festival to take a coronavirus test this week.

Around 50,000 people descended on Clifton Downs for a weekend of music and partying from September 3-5.

Bur organisers have now asked people to take a lateral flow test to see to make sure they don't have covid-19.

The festival tweeted: "We've been asked by Bristol Council and Public Health to encourage people to take a Lateral Flow Test this week.

"Please do so if you can, rates in Bristol are still high and whilst we have taken every precaution over the weekend at the show it makes sense for you to take a quick test, to help keep your friends and fam safe (sic).

"Amazing scenes this weekend, we are all still buzzing. Thank you."

People who attended the festival were required to either provide proof of a negative lateral flow result on the day of the event, or to show they were fully vaccinated or had natural immunity through the NHS app.

The festival welcomed scores of acts over its two days, and the weather held out to mark a bright return for Britain's festival season.

After the festival, Tom Paine of Team Love, said: "Wow. We've had such an amazing and rejuvenating weekend on the Downs with the IDLES and Love Saves The Day Festival.

"We had amazing crowds of smiling happy people, beautiful weather and some jaw-dropping performances from musicians and bands, the pictures and videos from the weekend speak for themselves."

And Bristol City Council said they only received three complaints about the festival.

A council spokesperson said: "The response to the weekend event on the Downs has been overwhelmingly positive and we were pleased to see such an event being enjoyed in the city again.

"Three complaints were received by our events team and, as well as responding to those, we have been working with the organisers as they ensure the removal of litter and waste, in accordance with the terms of the hire of the site."

But festivals across the UK have been linked to potential covid-19 cases.

Nearly 5,000 cases were potentially linked to the Boardmasters Festival a week after it ended, Cornwall Council's public health team revealed.

And more than 70 cases of coronavirus have been potentially linked to Green Man Festival, which took place in the Brecon Beacons from August 18-21.
