Love Saves The Day didn't lead to an increase of covid cases, says council

There is no evidence of an increase in covid cases linked to Love Saves The Day, the council has said.

Around 50,000 people descended on Clifton Downs for a weekend of music and partying on the first weekend of September.

Other festivals earlier in the summer were linked with thousands of covid cases, with more than 4,000 cases potentially linked with Boardmasters which was held in Cornwall in mid August.

And more than a thousand Latitude Festival attendees later tested positive for covid.

However, Love Saves The Day in Bristol hasn't faced the same issue according to Bristol City Council.

A Bristol City Council spokesperson said: “As rates of infection continue to fall in Bristol, there has been no evidence of an increase in coronavirus cases linked to the Love Saves The Day event on the Downs.

"As a council we continue to work closely with organisers to support and facilitate safe events across the city.

"This includes promoting and making it easy for people to access lateral flow (rapid) tests, working with organisers to ensure there is plenty of space for people to give one another distance, and encouraging people to stay at home if they feel unwell.

"If you are attending an event or festival in Bristol, please take precautions to limit the opportunities the virus has to spread, so we can keep our city running safely.”

After the festival, Love Saves The Day organisers urged attendees to take a coronavirus test that week.

People who attended the festival were required to either provide proof of a negative lateral flow result on the day of the event, or to show they were fully vaccinated or had natural immunity through the NHS app.

The organisers of Love Saves The Day were also praised by the city council and the police.

In a festival of firsts, the multi-genre music event took place at the Clifton Downs this year, where it was held for the first time with an increased capacity from its previous home at Eastville Park.

Normally kicking off festival season in late May, for the first time Love Saves The Day happened in September.
