Love on the dancefloor, vomit and lost shoes: Your memories of Newcastle's Tuxedo Royale

As the Tuxedo Royale embarks on it's final journey - to the scrapyard - you've been sharing their memories of the Tyneside icon with us on Facebook.

The derelict vessel made its way to Able Seaton Port on Tuesday, where the "full recycling process will be completed".

The sad news brings to an end a "very sorry and costly saga" for the former popular nightspot, which has been moored at Able Middlesbrough Port for the past 10 years.

From fond reminiscences of revolving dancefloors to lost pieces of clothing, we've selected the best stories for a quick trip back down memory lane.

Sticky carpets

"All aboard the SS Sticky Carpet!" wrote Pete Turner on our Facebook page , echoing the thoughts of many other ex-punters who remember being very attached, both literally and otherwise, to the ship's floor.

The infamous revolving dancefloor

"Many a great night .. the revolving dancefloor and the karaoke on the top deck .. a unique night spot". remembered Sunil Sooks.

"My memories are a smell of sick mainly on the middle floor. Hammered trying to stand up on the revolving dancefloor while having others fall on you whilst also hammered and accidentally hitting your arm with a tab."

Damo Dodds shared: "Going home smelling of sick and needing a new shirt due to tab burns was all part and parcel of a night in there. But I kept going back."

Gary Wilson posted: "Loved the revolving dancefloor, until you went on with a pint, then you'd be wearing it lol."

While Marjorie Bedwell coyly wrote: "Yes I remember that revolving dance floor. Xx"

Love on the dancefloor

Paul Main left the Tuxedo Princess with more than just a hangover. he wrote: "I met my Mrs on that ship."

John Andrew Jones wrote about meeting his wife Sarah on board. Tagging his wife into the comment, he wrote: "NO! Can we retrieve the revolving dance floor that we met o?"

Hilary Tennant remembered another couple who met in the infamous bars of the ship. She posted: "Emma Claire I'm sure that's wear ya mam and dad met x."

Health and safety

Another theme from the memories we received were certain elements of the ship's health and safety, which seem to have imprinted themselves on our readers' minds.

Helen Galbraith commended: "How sad! But perhaps not a bad thing, those stairs were lethal after a few treble vodkas, or maybe they were fine and it was the vodkas that were the problem!"

"The toilets were honking," Martin O'Malley simply put.

Underage drinking

A few of our readers seem to have been risk takers - and flouted the law.

Joanne White commented: "That dance floor. Think I was about 16/17."

While Emma Louise Hannah took things to the next level. "Our fav party place at 13," she said.

Lost clothing

It seems that the famous revolving dancefloor caused many a piece of footwear to go the journey.

Rachel Marie said: "End of an era of Malibu and pineapple and heels stuck in revolving dancefloors."

While Ian Fairley pondered: "I wonder if me left shoe’s still stuck to the dancefloor."

Hangovers

Davy Gordon seems to have had a bit too much of a good time on the ship.

He wrote: "I've been sick on that boat in two different places, once when it was the 'Tuxedo Princess' (through drink and the revolving dancefloor) and once when it originally was the 'Caledonian Princess'. I got sea sick on the way back from Arran in a force 8. Claim to fame."

While Ray Battista is one of those glad to see the back of the ship.

"Adios u wer nowt but trouble for me," he said.
