You're either going to REALLY love or REALLY hate this latest product offering from Marmite.
That's right - Marmite XO (Extra Old) is back on supermarket shelves.
Priced at £3.99 for a 250g jar, the nation-dividing spread has been matured for 28 days – four times longer than the original version – giving it a “more intense, full-bodied taste”, according to its maker Unilever.
The XO recipe was first created almost a decade ago in 2010 after being tested out on the 'Marmararti' – a group of some of Marmite’s biggest fans.
Since then, the limited edition gold and black jars have become collector’s items, attracting bids of up to £5,000 on eBay.
Marmite spokesperson Camilla Williamson said: “Whether it’s smothered on a crumpet or spread on a slice of sourdough, the Extra Old recipe has built a cult following.”
According to the product description: "Spread Marmite XO on toast, crumpets, bagels and a host of other foods. You can even try Marmite XO with eggs, avocados or cheese for an extra burst of flavour."
And good news for vegans, Marmite XO is completely plant-based.
The revived product will be available exclusively in Tesco stores for six months before being rolled out to other supermarkets subject to demand.
