Love Island winner Greg O'Shea shunned fame after receiving death threats over Amber Gill

Forgotten Love Island winner Greg O'Shea stepped away from the spotlight after he started receiving death threats over his ex Amber Gill's 'false' claim he broke up with her by text.

The star - who won the series with his then partner Amber - said that both he and Amber, 23, decided to FaceTime to end their relationship as they wanted different things.

Amber wanted to move to London after getting a lot of amazing deals while the 26-year-old wanted to continue his rugby career.

Opening up about his life after Love Island, he revealed that he and his family received endless death threats after it was claimed he rudely dumped her via text.

"When it was all happening I was like 'I have screenshots, I can release a statement with screenshots to show people the truth' but it was only going to add fuel to the fire and so I took the brunt of it," he explained about their situation. "It was hard to bite my tongue but that's just the way it played out.

"We did the whole after the show thing and then it got to us speaking to each other away from the cameras and she asked 'are we going to be boyfriend and girlfriend? Are we going to be a proper couple?'"

He added to MailOnline : "I said to her 'realistically, I don't know how this is going to work, you're in England and everyone wants a bit of you, you have your clothing deals and I'm going back to Ireland and going to try and do the Olympics.'"

However, the bombshell was reportedly upset over what he said, which was "all on FaceTime".

A day later, Amber had apparently agreed with Greg's question on how to deal with a long-distance relationship and said parting ways was the right decision.

"Her fans – it's like an Amber army and I can see why because she has everything going for her but when they turned on me it was very scary," he continued. "I could deal with it because I had the lads around me but it was very sad for my mother who got so upset. It got brutal for a while."

After the break-up, Amber appeared on Loose Women to discuss how she felt about it.

The two broke up five weeks after winning the 2019 series and Amber admitted she was "really disappointed" by the unexpected end to their relationship.
