Love Island winner explains vile reality of the villa

Love Island winner Sanam Harrinanan has shared the grim reality of living in the show's luxury villa.

Sanam Harrinanan, 25, won the 2023 Winter series of Love Island along with boyfriend Kai Fagan. The Bedford-based social worker appeared on the Cocktails and Takeaways podcast with host Madame Joyce, divulging all the secrets of the villa.

Cocktails & Takeaways allows for raw and emotive conversation, as Joyce discusses trending global events, music, dilemmas and even her most well-kept secrets, with a special guest joining each week.

Sanam described her experience living with the others as “horrid” because there were only two toilets and one shower for all of them to use. She could be sharing the bathroom with around 12 to 14 other people at one time.

She said: “So the only thing that really made me think I wanna go home is whenever I’d go to the toilet. I see that the toilet’s lifted up and there’s pee all over the toilet seat. And I can’t go to the toilet and there’s like skid marks in the toilet

“And like, there was like disinfectant spray, so I’ll still disinfect the seat, wipe it, lay my tissue paper down and still hover cause I ain’t trying to touch that seat that like 14 other people’s bum have touched that same - sweaty bums as well, can I just say it’s hot out there.”

Madame Joyce explained Sanam’s situation was the “scariest” thing for her as she has “a thing” about wet floors, specifically if the floor has been made wet by other people. The Love Island star then went on to explain a number of people would keep razors in the shower.

“In the shower there’s about, like, twelve different razors and some of those razors just had hair on them,” she said. “I used to hate going into that shower cause I would think, ‘who’s shaving and not like tapping it or like washing it?’ And just leaving their hair on that poor razor for everyone to just see.”

The podcast clip was shared on Twitter by @zendxyas, who wrote, “I was never going to go on Love Island anyway but after listening to these two clips it solidified it.” The tweet’s been viewed a whopping 3 million times, racking up 696 retweets, 458 quote tweets and 9,644 likes.

Fans of the show couldn’t help but share their disgust in the comments, as one said: “One shower … ? They need to cut into the champagne budget and get multiple bathrooms”, while a second added: “Only having one shower and two toilets in a villa of around 16 people is psychological warfare”.

A third wrote: “Baby you are not on love island!! You are a survivor!!” and a fourth added: “Gosh yuck!! How does a whole villa like that only have 2 toilets and one bathroom..Make it make sense.”
