Love Island viewers FURIOUS at show's explanation of Sherif Lanre's exit

Love Island viewers were angry with how the ITV2 show bosses dealt with the sudden exit of Sherif Lanre from the villa.

The 20-year-old chef and semi-professional rugby player's departure was announced earlier on Tuesday, with ITV saying only that Sherif had broken the programme's rules.

It was hoped that the real reasons why he left would be addressed during the show but viewers were left feeling angry after the issue was only briefly mentioned, and only in a throwaway one-liner.

Comedian Iain Stirling, who narrates the programme, said in his voiceover: "Earlier, following discussions with the producers, Sherif left the villa. But for the other islanders it's another day in paradise."

It was noticeable that Sherif was not part of the Tuesday night episode, though it is uncertain whether he had left before filming had begun on the day or whether he had been edited out.

Viewers were upset that arguably the most dramatic moment of the series had been glossed over so flippantly.

Taking to social media, one viewer: “What’s this throwaway comment on Sherif like he never was there.”

Another called out the islanders for keeping shtum: "So the islanders aren’t going to mention the fact that Sherif is gone."

A third pleaded: "Can someone pleaseeeee just mention Sherif & why he’s been kicked out."

While a fourth raged: “I better get a preview of Sherif leaving in five mins or this show is over.”

In a statement, Sherif admitted his "poor judgement" led to him leaving the villa.

"In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa," he said.

"I regret that I didn't conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.

"I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside."

*Love Island airs all week at 9pm on ITV2.
