Love Island viewers call for Wigan contestant to be axed from show over n-word message

Love Island viewers are calling for new contestant Danny Bibby to be axed from the show over an Instagram post featuring the 'n word'.

Thursday night's episode of the ITV2 dating show ended with the 25-year-old, from Wigan, whisking Kaz Kamwi off on a romantic date.

The rest of the islanders are yet to meet Danny, a plumber who also owns his own clothing brand, but the tattooed hunk admitted he was ready to stir things up and is hoping to be the alpha male.

However, the Mirror reports that the budding reality star has already been plunged into controversy after a handful of viewers trawled through his social media and noticed a comment that read: "My n****."

Danny's father has since come out to say his son 'does not have a racist bone in his body' and issued an apology.

Followers who spotted the remark quickly warned the people running Danny's social media to take the post down, and it was swiftly deleted.

The post in question, which has been removed, was dated from 2019 and featured his profile using the word in response to a pal.

However, it had already sparked fury among viewers that demanded Danny be removed and even threatened to call Ofcom.

The Instagram post has since been deleted after an Instagram user warned Danny (Instagram)

" Sorry but new boy Danny is racist and they are making our queen KAZ GO ON A DATE WITH HIMMMMM???? Sorry but throw the casting crew and directors in the bin #LoveIsland," wrote one furious viewer.

"We demand that the racist islander Danny is taken off the show immediately #LoveIsland#talkswithAsh@LoveIsland@itv2@itvhub," added another.

A third wrote: "Danny hasn’t even walked into the villa yet and i absolutely hate him - so glad he’s been cancelled immediately ! #it v #LoveIsland how are you allowing this racist into the villa let alone show him on tv AAAND letting our sweetheart KAZ go on a date with him? fuming."

"Can we just skip to getting Danny the racist off Love Island#LoveIsland," wrote a fourth.

In a statement issued via ITV, Danny's dad Richard said: "Danny does not have a racist bone in his body and there were no racist intentions to this post. Although it was not done maliciously, it was a mistake.

"I absolutely apologise on his behalf for the offence this wording may have caused. That would never have been his intention."

In tonight's episode of Love Island, viewers will catch up with Kaz and Danny as they enjoy a date before returning to the villa.

While he picked Kaz, it seems like Danny had revealed that he also had his eye on some other girls in the house.

He said in his entry video: "Lucinda is my type - nice eyes and tanned. Sharon is nice. I like Kaz’s vibe. Kaz is bubbly like me so I think we’d get on like a house on fire. I think me and Kaz will vibe."

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
