Love Island viewers baffled as stars 'vanish' while Aftersun is filmed in the villa

Love Island viewers were left pondering where the remaining contestants disappeared to on Sunday night when Aftersun was filmed at the villa.

The finalists, including Faye and Teddy, Chloe and Toby, Millie and Liam, and Kaz and Tyler, all appeared to vanish as Laura Whitmore hosted the show from the famous Majorcan villa.

Although Aftersun is usually filmed in the London studio’s, this year ITV changed the format up amid ongoing Covid restrictions.

Viewers watched as Love Island host Laura interviewed the stars who were last to leave the villa including Jake and Liberty and Mary and Aaron.

The former islanders were brought back to the very place their journey began to discuss their blossoming and crumbling love stories.

However, the remaining contestants were nowhere to be seen as Laura and her guest hosts set up ship by the firepit as she grilled Jake on his treatment of Liberty – much to the delight of viewers.

Taking to Twitter to speculate and question where the contestants might be, viewers admitted that they were ‘annoyed’ by the lack of clarity.

“Okay so Laura is in the villa, but where are the rest of the stars like Faye and Teddy? My head is wrecked trying to figure it out,” questioned one fan.

“I want to know where the Islanders are whilst Laura and everyone is in the villa live for Aftersun,” another voiced.

“It’s annoying that they have never explained where the islanders are. Like are they just hiding away in the bedrooms or what? Make it clear ITV,” someone else complained.

“Where are all the Islanders right now? Surely, they're not all just watching Aftersun from the villa,” another Love Island fan asked.

Meanwhile, another fan suggested that maybe Love Island bosses had thrown the finalists a party outside the villa while Laura hosted Aftersun.

The curious fan shared: “I highly doubt the islanders are actually in the villa while Aftersun is being filmed. I’d imagine producers took them away somewhere to celebrate making it to the final.”

While it’s not yet been confirmed where the islanders were during Aftersun, it’s likely they were at a different location or hidden away from Laura Whitmore and all the action ahead of tonight’s epic final.

The Islander’s whereabouts wasn’t the only topic of discussion on last night’s Aftersun however.

Viewers were left feeling ‘uncomfortable’ as Liberty and Jake had an awkward reunion on the show just two days after they decided to call it quits on their whirlwind love story.

The pair, who had been coupled-up from the very first episode of the series, sensationally decided to leave the villa separately just a number of days before the grand finale.

Fan favourite Liberty told Jake that she didn’t ‘feel loved’ by him, and insisted that she had to be true to herself after finding self-love in the villa.

After the pair were grilled by Aftersun host Laura Whitmore, fans flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts.

"This interview with Jake and Liberty is very uncomfortable. I think they both still have feelings for each other,” one viewer shared.

“They need to stop pushing the Liberty and Jake getting back together idea on #LoveIslandAftersun Lib looks really uncomfortable,” someone else tweeted.

And a third voiced: “Liberty is clearly heartbroken, and you’re making her sit and dissect and analyse her pain on national TV, with the man who hurt her sat next to her? It’s been a couple of days. Not on Laura.”

Don’t miss the Love Island final tonight at 9PM on ITV2.
