Love Island USA's Josh Goldstein told sister Lindsey has died during time in villa

Love Island USA star Josh Goldstein has been handed the tragic news that his sister Lindsey has died during his time in the villa.

Josh, 24, and his new girlfriend Shannon St. Clair, who were tipped to win the series, made a shock departure from the show after they were given the heartbreaking news.

On Thursday's episode (August 5), contestant Josh revealed the tragic news before he announced he would be leaving to cope with the family tragedy.

The episode started off normally, with all islanders playing games and chatting away as they welcomed new arrivals, but it was the next morning that his co-stars noticed he and Shannon were gone.

Josh and Shannon were woken up by producers during the middle of the night, to be told the heartbreaking news away from cameras.

The next morning, before they left, Josh told the other islanders: "I just wanna tell you guys that me and Shannon are going home today.

"My sister passed away last night."

He added: "I just want to let you guys know that I’m so grateful to have met all of you."

Baseball player Josh shared how his beloved sister had actually inspired him to do the show, and he described her as "an unbelievable person".

He then went on to reveal that her death was "unexpected" and he felt it was right to head home to support his family.

After his departure, the show tweeted: "We send our love and condolences to Josh and his family on behalf of all of us at Love Island."

Josh's new girlfriend Shannon made the decision to quit the show with him to show her support.

He clearly shared a close relationship with his sister as he has previously sent her a birthday message on Instagram, writing: "Congrats for being a quarter century old... much love for you sis".

Fans of the show took to Twitter to share their heartache after Josh broke the news.

One person wrote: "I'm probably going to get tonsillitis and a headache from trying to hold my tears back, Josh."

"My heart is literally aching for Josh," a second penned.

A third commented: "Love & prayers to Josh and his family. Thankful Shannon is there by your side."

"I am f***ing crying I cannot believe josh and Shannon are leaving Josh broke my heart I feel so bad," a fourth shared.
